The PLRA was founded on 10 July 1887 in Asunción as the "Centro
Democrático", presided by Antonio Taboada, a hero of the war against
the Triple Alliance (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay). The party was
renamed in 1890 "Partido Liberal", in 1967 "Partido Liberal Radical"
and, in 1978 "Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico".
The Liberals governed Paraguay from 17 December 1904 to 17 February
1936.
