About the flag

It is a fairly typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a plain red background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : III Série in 1986.06.11, a remarkably late date.

Coat of arms

The arms are Argent a lion Gules and eight fig leaves Vert. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Vila de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo". "Figueira" means "(common) fig (tree)", which makes the arms partly canting.

Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo municipality had 7158 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 17 communes covering 508,57 km². It is part of Guarda District, traditional province Beira Alta, 1999 ref. adm. region Beira Interior, C.C.R. / NUTS II Centro, and NUTS III Beira Interior Norte.

It is a fairly typical portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a plain yellow background. The banner should have golden and red tassels and cord, and golden pole with spear finial. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República : III Série in 2004.02.17:

Escudo de vermelho, cegonha hidráulica de ouro, realçada de negro, entre duas trompas de caça de prata, encordoadas de ouro, a da dextra volvida; em chefe, ovelha de prata, passante, realçada de negro. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco, com a legenda a negro: "VALE DE AFONSINHO".

The arms are Gules a bucket lever Or garnished Sable between two hunting horns Argent respectant cordoned Or and in chief a sheep passant Argent garnished Sable. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Vale de Afonsinho".
