The arms are Argent two wheels Azure over two heraldic fountains over two millstones Azure, each pair set in fess, on a bordure Gules seven billets Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll "VILA DE ANÇÃ" reading in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
There is an over all similarity in tinctures and arrangement with the national arms, and the 23 elements remind also the Castro family coat of arms. Apart from the obvious symbolism of the blue elements, the billets stand for locally quarried Ançã limestone.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 11 Apr 2010

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 15 March 1996
