About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a quartered background (meaning town rank) of white and black. Arms and flag approved by law of 1948.02.24, a relatively late date.

The coat of arms is argent between two bunches of grapes fruited purpure and leaved and stemmed vert a castle sable open and litten of the field and on a counterchief azure wavy a wavy wavy fess argent. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "Celorico de Basto".
