Introduction

The Arab Socialist Organization was a mainly Sunni-Muslim Lebanese Nasserist militia, widely active in the 1975-1985 period of the Lebanese civil war. It had strongholds in South Lebanon, but most of its supporters were in the Bekaa Valley. Its name in Arabic is "Al-ittihad Al-ishtiraki Al-Arabi."

Its leader was Abdul-Rahim Murad, Lebanese Defence minister until May 2005.

Please note that there are three other Lebanese Nasserist organizations that used the same eagle on their flags.

Description

The flag is green with a white disc in the middle bearing the eagle emblem of Gamal Abdul Nasser of Egypt, but with the cedar tree (the well-known symbol of Lebanon) on a shield on its chest. The Arabic words under the eagle's claws read "Freedom, Socialism, and Unity," which is also a Nasserist slogan.
