Note: In Indonesia, since 1967 the police is part of the military. So the flag design followed those of the military branches. In 1998 the police has begun to be separated from the military, but a fully independent police force will only likely be in 2002 or so.

Motto: Rastra Sewakottama ("The Nation's Main Servant" in Kawi, an old Indonesian language.)
Ratio: 2:3
Colors: Background: Black, The Emblem: Gold.
Meaning:
The three stars represent the three police philosophies - Tri Brata
The shield represents the daily duties of the police force, to protect the Indonesian civilians
The torch ray represents the spirit of the police force, to serve, guide and provide information for Indonesian citizens. The pillar represents the police force's spirit of service, to be the nation's upholder.
Rice and cotton represent the national aspiration, guiding the state to make its people prosperous.

Regarding the Indonesian National Police (formerly Indonesian Police Force); First, an updated Note: In Indonesia, the National Police Agency was founded on 1 July 1946; it became part of the armed forces, and renamed the Indonesian Police Force, in 1962; therefore its flag designs followed those of the military branches. It was formally separated from the armed forces, and renamed the Indonesian National Police, on 1 April 1999, but its flag designs remain unchanged.
