In the new administrative division of Croatia Djurdjevac
gained the status of a city only in 1997, when, on the celebral
session of the Council in February 1997 the new coat of arms
adopted in March previous year, were presented, presumably after
the approval from the Ministry was gained. A golden peacock on a
cannonball reminds to the legend, according to which the city was
saved from Turkish siege by fireing peacocks instead of
cannonballs. The stars are taken from the Ernust family arms.
Sigismund Ernust, ban (vice-roy) of Dalmatia, Croatia and
Slavonia since 1494 rebuilded the fortress of Djurdjevac to its
present shape. Until 1997 Djurdjevac had status of a community.

In the mean time, Đurdevac issued a number of decisions
concidering the coat of arms and the flag. here are the
essential, while those granting use of the coat of arms to
various commercial and social associations in the city are
ommited:

The Statute amendments and the amendment of the 1996 decision on
the coat of arms and the flag do not change the essence of the
design of the coat of arms and the flag, but mostly are
considered with the change of the text regarding the change of
the statuts from a community to a city and some other minor
amendments. The latter two are cleared texts of the Statutes and
the decision.
It should be noted that the official gazette 4/06 inludes a
drawing of the flag where the flag field is shown white with
coloured coat of arms, however, it must be a printng error, since
everywhere else the flag is clearly described as yellow.
