The municipality of Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef (4,627 inhabitants in 2041; 2,512 ha) includes the seaside resort of Tharon-Plage. It is also known as the headquarters of Biscuiterie Saint-Michel, which produces the galette Saint-Michel.
The place's odd name may come from Saint-Michel-de-Chevesché the neighbouring St. Gildas Point was once known as Terra de Chevesché. A chevecier chef was a monk commissioned to watch the chevet of the church, where its treasure was kept.
