Presentation of Corcos

The municipality of Corcos (aka Corcos del Valle; 238 inhabitants in 2010; 4,255 ha; municipal website) is located in the northeast of Valladolid Province, on the border with Palencia Province, 20 km from Valladolid.

Corcos is the site of the Santa María de Palazuelos monastery, founded in the 13th century by Cistercians monks from the San Martín de Valvení monastery; the monastery was built on a plot offered by Alonso Téllez de Meneses, made in 1213 lord of Palazuelos by King Alfonso VIII. The founder and his family were buried in the St. Ines funerary chapel located inside the monastery church. A local legend claims that the bells of the Palencia Cathedral come from Corcos.
