Description of flag:
The ratio of flag is 3:5. It is a red flag with horizontal yellow stripes at the upper and lower edge. The ratio between the stripes is 1:3:1. In the centre of the red stripe is the coat of arms.
Description of coat of arms:
It is a golden (=yellow) shield with a red bar having an inescutcheon. The inescutcheon shows a red swan within a golden (=yellow) shield. In the chief are two red leaves of a water-lily, in the base is one leaf.
Meaning:
The coat of arms connects the elements of former territories. The red bar in a golden field is the coat of arms of the archbishops of Münster. The leaves are taken from the coat of arms of the counts of Tecklenburg and the swan is the coat of arms of the Counts of Steinfurt.
Authorized: 10 March 1978 by Regierungspräsident Münster
