Description

The market-town Haag uses old arms, dating back as municipal seal to 1390. The arms are based on the arms of the local counts, the "Gurren von Haag". "Gurre" is an ancient word for horse. The arms show: Gules, a horse bridled rearing Argent. According to the literature the flag is white-red; however, my own observations showed that it is in fact a hanging flag of red-white, with the arms in a white bannerhead at the top.
This is one of the two possibilities to place the arms on municipal flags in Bavaria, the other one (which is much more usual) is to have it directly on the stripes of the flag, slightly shifted to the top. Sources: Wanka 1989 , Steinbichler und Lamprecht 1978, Stadler 1965 and
