Introduction

According to Art. 4(2) of the constitution of Hamburg (version 6 June 1952) the districts of Hamburg are just mere administrative units having no special rights and being no legal entities. Therefore normally they have no current flags. It is the same with the Central District.

[Hamburg-Finkemwerder flag] image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 19 May 2011

The island of Finkenwärder became part of the city of Hamburg in 1395. The flag iused by the locals is simply white bearing the coat of arms of Finkenwerder.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per bend. The sinister side shows a golden (=yellow) apple in a green field. The dexter side shows a local lighthouse striped red and white in a silver (=white) field. The lighthouse is placed upon a green hill over blue water. In the water is a silver (=white) plaice (plaice a la Finkenwerder is a famous fish dish).

Borough of Hafencity

[Hamburg-Hafencity banner] image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 5 Jun 2011

The blue banner of the new borough of Hafencity can be found everywhere in the new borough. The ratio is approx 5:2. The banner is blue with white, vertical inscriptions in capitals spreading out nearly all over the flag. The inscription is "HAFENCITY(bold, 1st column, with bigger "C") HAMBURG (2nd column). At the bottom edge the same inscription is placed horizontally and much smaller besides a square logo. The square is blue with two white waves dispersing from the upper right and the lower left corner of the square, both interfering in its centre.
