Leonberg Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a black, rampant lion, armed and tongued red.
Meaning:
Leonberg was founded in 1249 by Count Ulrich of Württemberg. The oldest seal dates from the late 13th century and shows a lion stantant (Leo) on a quadruple mount (4-Berg), making the arms canting in a double sense. Since the early 15th century, prints exist since 1401, the seals display a lion rampant, sometimes sinister facing, mostly without mountain. The colours are those of Württemberg and are known from paintings since 1535.
