Essex Rebrands Town Flag

Essex is will be hoisting its new town flag up the flag pole on Wednesday, May 13th. A special flag raising ceremony will take place on the front lawn of Town Hall starting at 10am.

"Most people don't realize that the elements of our logo and this new flag were carefully chosen to communicate the diversity found in our four distinct communities as well as the connectedness we have as a unified municipality," says Donna Hunter, Director of Corporate Services.

"The flag raising event gives us an opportunity to celebrate the strength and progressive nature of our municipality, while also sharing the pride we have in our community."

The Town's branding exercise started in 2008. As finances have permitted, a wide range of projects have been completed, including the rebranding of stationery and town vehicles, installation of centre signs at the entrance to each of the four urban centres, and consistent use of the logo on marketing and advertising materials.

All flags throughout the municipality will be changed at the same time. Locations include the historic Essex Railway Station, the new fire hall on Alice Street North, the flag pole on Talbot Street in downtown Essex Centre, and the flag pole at Colchester Harbour.

Not a lot of information about the "carefully chosen" design. You can see the four centres named on the old flag below.
