Five horizontal stripes, dark blue, white, dark red, white, and dark blue, with the red the widest, the dark blue next, and the white the narrowest. On the center, a white disk with a green fig leaf.

Joseph McMillan, 25 March 2003 The municipality of Taquarituba (22,294 inhabitants in 2010; 44,709 ha) is located in southwestern São Paulo State, 320 km of São Paulo.

Taquarituba was formed on land belonging to the Lajeado Estate,located in São João Batista do Rio Verde (today the municipality of Itaporanga). The owner of the estate, Francisco Ferreira Loureiro, is considered as the founder of the town. He founded on 16 August a chapel dedicated to St. Roch and offered a piece of land located on the left bank of river Lageado, a tributary of river Taquari, to establish a settlement named Formiguinhas do Taquary. The district of São Roque de Taquary was established by State Law no. 461 of 1 December 1896, as part of the municipality of Itaporanga, and renamed Taquary by State Law No. 975 of 20 December 1905. The municipality of Taquary was established by State Law No. 2,097 of 24 December 1925, inaugurated on 14 March 1926. and renamed Taquarituba by State Decree-Law no. 14,344 of 30 November 1944. Taquarituba means in Tupi-Guarani "a place rich in taquara", "taquara" being the local name of several species of bamboo-like grasses.

Blue is the color characteristic of the sky over Taquarituba at sunset in spring. It is also a symbol of justice, loyalty, perseverance, dignity, incorruptible firmness, perfection... Snow white represents the spirit of peace and friendship reigning among the inhabitants of Taquarituba. White is a symbol of purity, beauty, felicity, equity, integrity, truth, peace, friendship... Dark red is the color characteristic of the soil of Taquarituba. Red is a symbol of audacity, valor, valiance, nobleness, rule, pugnacity, honor, charity... The fig tree is taken form the coat of arms of the Loureiro family, evoking Francisco Ferreira Loureiro, the founder of Taquarituba.
