Municipality

The municipality of Entre-Ijuís (9,008 inhabitants in 2016; 55,255 ha) is located 450 km north-west of Porto Alegre.

Entre-Ijuís was settled in 1873 as Passos de Ijuí. In 1923, Ernesto Cardoso de Aguiar set up a first shop selling food and fabric. The same year, the Passos de Ijuí bridge was a strategic point disputed between the Maragatos rebelled against the central power. Juca Raimundo and his 15 men were defeated by the Chimango party, loyal to the government.
The district of Entre-Ijuís was established by Municipal Law No. 3 promulgated on 26 August 1948; the place was named for its location between rivers Ijuí Grande (Greater Ijuí) and Ijuizinho (Lesser Ijuí). The municipality of Entre-Ijuís was established by State Law No. 8,558 promulgated on 13 April 1988.

Description of the Flag

The coat of arms of Entre-Ijuís is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 10 promulgated on 25 January 1989.

Article 1.
Shield divided in three parts. In chief on a field azure Minerva's winged helmet or, symbolizing commerce that flourishes in the municipality. In the center on a field gules the Cross of the Missions argent, recalling the region to which the municipality belongs. In the lozenge's lower part, on a field vert a cow's head or representing cattle-breeding. On the lozenge's sides, or, two pillars, representing rivers Ijuí Grande and Ijuizinho, the municipality's namesake; and a wheat plant on one side and a soybean plant on the other side, representing agriculture. The shield surmounted by a four-towered mural crown or. Beneath the shield a scroll argent inscribed gules "13 - 4 ENTRE-IJUÍS 1988". The colors recall those of the flag of Rio Grande do Sul.
