Description of the flag

The city of Fernley (12,673 inhabitants in 2007; 9,170 ha), located in West Nevada, was founded in 1940 and incorporated in 2001. Since a boundary change made in 2001, the city is fully included in Lyon County.

Mary Jean Kelso, "The Lahontan Valley News", 27 November 2009, reports the unveiling of the flag of Fernley, 14 November 2009. A contest for the city's flag was launched by the Fernley Arts & Culture Commission in 2007. The commission decided to mix ideas from the three top designs, proposed by Paulette Patten, Alex Lacko and Goldie Henderson, respectively.

As shown on a colour photo, the flag of Fernley shows a local landscape, with, in the middle, a sunflower-shaped transparent seal charged with "CITY / OF / FERNLEY" "Established 2001" over a golden scroll charged with "A Great Place to Live, Work, and Play". www.lahontanvalleynews.com

M.J. Kelso claims that Fernley is the 4th town in Nevada (together with Carson City, Fallon and Las Vegas) and 148th town in the USA to have its own flag. The FOTW website, although not showing the flag of Fallon, confirms that this not true listing numerous towns in Nevada with a reported flag.
