Description of the flag

From the book "Flags to Color, Washington to Lincoln." The title is "Fort Hill Flag, c. 1812," and appears on page 9. Quote from the book:

"Colors: White stars on blue canton; eight red and seven white stripes."

"New Englanders opposed the War of 1812 because they were afraid it would cut down on their profitable commerce with England. Nevertheless they were also concerned about attacks on their coastline and Fort Hill, Maine, proudly flaunted this banner of fifteen stars and fifteen stripes. Little attention was paid to the exact details of star arrangement or the size and proportions of the canton until official specifications were adopted for the United States flag in 1912."
