It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Coat of arms

Shield Or, divided by a saltire Azure, in base quarter a millstone Gules, in each other quarter a swallow of Sable and Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "AVELEDA - VILA DO CONDE".
Meaning:
The saltire is alluding to St. Andrew, venerated by the local people. The swallows are representing emigration, a characteristic of the commune. The millwheel is representing the craft of millers, to which many locals belonged in the past.

Aveleda Commune is one of the 21 communes of Vila do Conde Municipality; it had 1314 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 3.7 km².
