About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

The arms are Argent five grenades Sable flamed Gules ordered in quincunx, on a bordure Azure three roses Gules barbed Or and three fleurs de lis Or alternating. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VIMEIRO - LOURINHÃ".
Meaning:
The grenades refer to the Battle of Vimeiro, in 1808, where invading Napoleonic troops met their final defeat. The fleurs de lis to local Frankish settlers, and the roses for Queen St. Elizabeth of Aragon.

Presentation of Vimeiro

Vimeiro Commune is one of the eight communes of Lourinhã Municipality (q.v.); it had 1143 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 7,01 km².
