Coat of arms

Shield Or with base wavy of Vert and Argent, a pine tree eradicated Vert, between two storks affronty vigilant Gules armed Sable, Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "MONTENEGRO - FARO"
Meaning:
The pine is a symbol of immortaly, for it is nearly indestructible, even by fire. Pine woods are covering nearly the whole range of the commune. The storks had been a holy symbol of Christianity, they had been said to destroy the evil, usually serpents. Furthermore they are symbolizing resurrection, because they return every year during their bird migrations. They are also symbols of long life and felicity and filial piety, finally they are symbolizing meditation and contemplation of philosophers. Their red colour is representing fecundity and filial love. The base wavy is symbolizing the Atlantic and the Formosa Lagoon. The golden base colour is representing richness, power and the sun over the Algarve.
