Blazon: på svart bunn en sølv galei.
In English: Sable a galley argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 28 January 1938 and after the unification with Sannidal and Skåtøy appropved again on 13 May 1960 after a drawing by Einar Foss after a sketch by Olaf Lia. [c2j87]
When Kragerø was grnated city rights it had an obligation to provide a galley with five canons. However, until 1842 the city was dependent of Skien and was paying a tax to it until 1842, and thus until that time the city used a seal that was identical to that of Skien (depicting two skis a cross and rose trees) with the main difference in the inscription reading here "LOCO. SIGILLI. SCHEENENSIS" ("in place of the seal of Skien"). [c2j87] depicts a drawing of that seal, but I have not find an image of it on line.
BTW, not a city flag, but a party youth chapter banner may be seen here (The Digital Museum has a number of other worthy flags to show, we just haven't got to them as yet).
