Ternaard Coat of Arms

[Ternaard Coat of Arms] by Jarig Bakker, 3 May 2004

Description: "In blue a silver wavy (heraldic) right bend with in chief a six-pointed golden star and in base a golden fleur-de-lis".
Ternaard was the seat of the former municipality of Westdongeradeel, which is why those arms were the base. The fleur-de-lis has been taken from the arms of the Aylva (say: Alüa) family. The star is the very ancient Frisian "Leid-Ster" (leading star), as counterpart to the seat of Metslawier, seat of the former municipality of Oostdongeradeel.
