Takeda united Kai Province with the Genji clan, known as the Kai Genji, and fought five times with Uesugi Kenshin of neighboring Shinano Province at Kawanakajima. Later, he attempted to advance to Kyoto but died of illness. The war banner has a red circle on a black background with a red Takeda family emblem placed under a red horizontal stripe drawn in the center. The family emblem is a diamond divided diagonally into four parts. Another war banner has red background with nine Karabishi in black which is a floral pattern that came from China.
