Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is five times divided per fess into red and golden(=yellow). A silver(=white), rampant, double queued lion crowned golden(=yellow) is superimposing the bars. The chief is golden(=yellow) with five red lozenges ordered horizontally.
Meaning:
According to source the shield is based upon the arms of the lords of Alfter, who died out in 15th century. The lozenge is taken from the arms of former municipality of Witterschlick. Four other lozenges have been added representing the other parts of the muncipality: Alfter, Gielsdorf, Oedekoven and Impekoven.
