    Hinterzarten Municipal Coat of Arms

In a silver (= white) shield is a green pine tree on top of a green triplemount. The mountain is a superimposed by a black inescutcheon displaying five silver (= white) balls ordered in quincunx. The inescutcheon has a red bordure.
    Meaning:
The pine tree on a mountain is symbolizing the forests and the Schwarzwald mountains. The inescutcheon shows the arms of the Lords (later Counts) of Sickingen-Hohenburg, former rulers from the 16th century until 1808.

German ski champion Sven Hannawald plays in the sports club SC Hinterzarten. He also lives in Hinterzarten, a village situated in the region of Baden, part of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The banner was approved on 15 December 1994 by the county administration, published in GABl 82/1995. The coat of arms was approved in 1909. According to the approval the flag should be green - white instead of white - green. Jens Pattke spotted however a flag having the pattern displayed above. The photo can be seen here, displayed in Stefan Schwoon's database.
