Rethem City Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a lion rampant Azure, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
In 1353 city rights had been granted to the village by the dukes Otto and Wilhelm of Lüneburg. The usual denotation was however always market town (Flecken). The oldest seals from the 14th century display the lion beneath a Gothic vault. Since the 15th century he stands in a shield. The lion was depicted as sinister facing on seals from 1564 and 1630. Hupp recommended this version in order to distinguish from the identical arms of the cities of Bleckede and Fallersleben. Since the 18th century however the dexter facing version prevailed again.

Häuslingen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted per pale of Gules and Or, a radiant sun under a chevron, all in counterchanged colours.
Meaning:
The colours red and yellow are those of the Welfen kin, the former rulers. The municipality's name is derived from "Haus" (= house). The chevron is symbolising a roof, covering and connecting the former indepent municipalities of Groß Häuslingen and Klein Häuslingen (great and small). Thus the colours have been counterchanged. The sun is symbolising life and fortune in general, especially he is stressing the fact that Häuslingen had been one of the first municipalities in Germany promoting the use of solar energy.
The arms were adopted by the local council on 14 July 2011. The draft was made by Arnold Rabbow.
