Alzey-Worms County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Or a dragon couchant Gules, beneath Gules a fiddle Or in bend sinister.
Meaning:
The dragon is taken from the arms of the former Worms County, approved in 1954. He appeared on local coins and is the symbol of the guild of city minters and thus alluding to the right of coingae, granted to the city by Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa. The dragon is also alluding to the Song of the Nibelungs, an epic medieval poem, in which the dragon is killed by the hero Siegfried. The fiddle is taken from the city ams Alzey and is also alluding to the bard Volker of Alzey, a local nobleman, who reports the occurences in the poem. The fiddle appeared since 1262 on local seals of the sewers of the local Winter kin, furthermore on a court seal from the 15th century.
