About the Flag

The municipality of Canitar (4,369 inhabitants in 2010; 5,738 ha) is located 370 km of São Paulo. The municipality was established in 1991, following a plebiscite organized on 19 May 1991, and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

The symbols of Canitar are prescribed in Article 2 of the Municipal Constitution as "the flag, the coat of arms and other symbols established by Municipal Law".

The flag of Canitar is presented on Wikimedia Commons as a gyronny of eight green and white pieces. In the middle of the flag is placed a white disk charged with the municipal coat of arms.

The image was contributed on 10 February 2013 by "Prefeitura Municipal", quoting the official municipal website as the source. No other source for the flag was found. Several municipal flags have been recently uploaded with the same credit, although, in most cases, the matching municipal website does not show the flag. However, photos of the flags, when available, indicate that the accuracy of these submissions is quite high (except the 2:3 proportions that do not match the common use of 14:20 proportions).
