The university flag has purple background with a white emblem and horizontally written white kanji university name. The emblem of Taisho University is a reproduction of Nalanda Temple, the Indian Buddhist research forest, and represents the life of Buddha. The three leaves of the linden tree represent the Buddha's birth, attainment of enlightenment, and nirvana, and the three sects that founded the university and the 36 lucky plants (representing those who study and believe in Buddhism) that were laid down by the Buddha when he attained enlightenment symbolize Taisho University, the center for Buddhist studies.
