Description of the flag

The city of Surprise seems to have a new flag, as seen in this picture: 4.bp.blogspot.com/-LGYsTYdDzTI/UyU6AkRt52I/AAAAAAAAR54/OwhCOV0iujg/s1600/DSC05752.JPG (Source: travelsoframblingroses.blogspot.com/2014/03/texas-rangers-vs-colorado-rockies-march.html) (fourth flag from left to right). This picture was taken on March, 2014.

The flag is a white horizontal background with the Seal (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surprise, _Arizona#mediaviewer/File:Surprise_AZ_seal.png) on the middle, as seen here: cf.juggle-images.com/matte/white/280x280/surprise-arizona-logo-primary.jpg

I noticed that the text about the City of Surprise's flag posted by Pascal Gross in June 2001 mentions the former city flag, but doesn't give too much detail. It mentions that the former flag was designed by the former city manager. It makes me wonder if the flag seen in the photograph from March 2014 is perhaps the former flag, still in use? Doing a quick scan online, including taking a look at the city council minutes on the city's website, I couldn't find any references to a new flag being adopted since the last one was adopted in 2001.

From city website:

The winning design was selected from 38 entries that were submitted during the four-month-long contest. The judges included two art teachers, City Councilman Johnny Montoya and the city's graphics consultant, Joan Risdon, of Absolute Graphics.

The winning design, which was enhanced by Risdon, shows a brilliant yellow sun, surrounded by blue sky, dropping behind the northern edge of the purple White Tank Mountains. A blue S in Surprise embraces the sun and mountains.

Conradt and his wife moved to Sun City Grand about a year and a half ago. He is a former engineer with telephone companies in Minnesota and Colorado. Among his hobbies is painting and he said he especially enjoys working in acrylics.

The design, which was presented to City Council on Feb. 8 (2001), will be used in variety of marketing and promotion projects for the city.

"It took the judges three sessions to narrow the field of entries to three," said Montoya. "The competition was really tough. We had entries from children and adults. The entries were very colorful, and they came in many different forms. One of the finalists came in as a piece of embroidery."

The last flag used by the city was adapted from a design created by former city manager Richard McComb and enhanced by Sun City West designer Don Ellis.
