Although this webpage and Ralf Hartemink claim that the commune uses the 1939 coat of arms, they must be mistaken. Not only because the old arms had never been popular. All flags of the united commune had been displayed here in [http://maissemanario.pt/relatorio-e-contas-chumbados-na-assembleia-de-freguesia-da-povoa-de-varzim-beiriz-e-argivai/]. But unfortunately the page had been recently updated. A photo within that page showed that the new united commune still uses the municipal symbols instead.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure, St. Mary and Jesus Baby Child in a darker rectangle having golden wreath ornaments, issuant from base base a bridge Argent masoned Sable with one complete arch flanked by two half arches, the central arch charged with a brick hammer a brick trowel and a plumb line, all Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "BEIRIZ".

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

The arms are Or, in chief a flame blade sword Azure pointing upwards holding a beam balance Azure and two oak twigs Vert each fruited of three acorns Gules ordered 1:2, in base a five arch aqueduct Sable masoned Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "ARGIVAI".
Meaning:
The aqueduct shown in the arms stands for the local 16th century aqueduct. Sword and scales are representing St. Michael.
