Coat of Arms

[COA of Finnøy]image by Tomislav Šipek, 27 January 2016

Blazon: På blå grunn ei vengja sølv pil på skrå oppover. In English: Azure a winged arrowhead argent in bend.
Approved by the royal resolution 23 September 1983 after a drawing by Harald Hallstensen. [c2j87]
The design is that of Hestbø (Hestby) family, the most influential noble family in Norway in the late Middle Age. They originate from Hasby in Finnøy. The family ancestor Ogmund Sigurdsson (died 1320) used a seal with a winged arrowhead, the design taken by his son Finn and grandson Ogmund Finnsson (ca. 1320-1338), who was most notable family member. However, with him the family died out. His seal may be seen here.
