Blazon: I gull en rød rose med fem kronblad.
In English: Or a rose gules.
(There is no need to spell out that there are five petails in the rose, in English [an other herladries, for that matter] a rose is alway defaulted to five petails if not stated otherwise)
Approved by the royal resolution of 26 June 1981 after a drawing by Nils Jacob Lugg. [c2j87]
[c2j87] also shows the seal of Jon Havtoreson of Sudreimsætten, as oen of the finest 14th century norwegian seal. Even nicer drawing of it may be found here.
The municipal web site recounts that in 1977, after an initiative from the Blaker and Sørum History Society, a discussion was started on the new arms. Therefore in 1979 an open competition for ideas was run. The winning design, a five-petailed rose was chosen in cooperation with the State Archives. The designw as adopted in the municipal administration on 6 Novemebr 1980 and eventually approved.
It is actually the ancient family arms of Sudreim i.e. of Sudreimsætten, one of the most important Norwegian families in the Middle Age originating from Sudreimr in today Sørum , for which it is also named.
