Flag of Stupnik - Image by Željko Heimer, 26 August 2000
The municipality of Stupnik was formed in 1995 by parts of the town of Zagreb. Being close to Zagreb, and yet not affected by the higher taxes there, and also several important highways from Zagreb towards coast passing through it, it is a prosperous small new municipality.
This is one of those few municipalities in Croatia that have their administrative seat in a settlement of a different name than the municipality iself - in this case the village is Donja Stupnik.

The symbols of Stupnik were presumably adopted in the late 1990s.
The current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Stupnik, adopted on 14 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 17 July 2009 in the Zagreb County official gazette Glasnik Zagrebačka županije, No. 16, include a description of the symbols. This repeats the former Stautes Statut Općine Stupnik, adopted on 26 January 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 3 February 2006 in Glasnik Zagrebačka županije, No. 2.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is blue with the coat of arms, of noticeable lighter blue shade and bordered yellow, in the middle.
