FIAV Liaison Committee

January 7, 2001

International Federation of Vexillological Associations (FIAV)
Mr. Charles Spain

To the FIAV Executive Board,

The Flags of the World internet group (FOTW) hereby applies for full membership in the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (FIAV). FOTW's sole purpose is the advancement of the pursuit of vexillology, that is the creation and development of a body of knowledge about flags and flag usage of all types.

FOTW hereby formally commits itself to the FIAV purposes, namely:

a) to create a strong bond among those associations and institutions and to encourage and coordinate their work, studies and research,

b) to promote periodically the organization of International Congresses of Vexillology and to lend its support to their organizers,

c) to encourage the creation in all countries of associations and institutions dedicated to vexillology,

d) to sanction international standards facilitating the development of these activities.

FOTW is constituted in conformity with the laws that govern the Internet and was founded in 1993. Enclosed, you will find a copy of our rules, which form our constitution. We are in continuous virtual session, exchanging vexillological information on an hourly basis. We publish The Flags of the World Web Site (and its mirrors) on the internet at the World Wide Web address http://www.fotw.ca/flags [subsequently replaced by http://flagspot.net].

As for international relations, our membership includes vexillologists from every continent, including members from vexillological associations around the world. The membership includes several members from other associations that are currently FIAV members.

Our membership currently stands at 252. At least four of our members are planning to attend the next International Congress of Vexillology sponsored by the Federation (Dave Martucci, Graham Bartram, Edward Mooney, Rob Raeside). We will elect an autochthonous and authorized representative of FOTW to represent us at the General Assembly in York, England prior to the next session of FIAV.

Thank you for your consideration of our application. If there is any further information you need or any question you may have, please don't hesitate to write or call. Email may be sent to our Liaison Committee Chair, Edward Mooney, at <moonbase@qnet.com>. You may telephone him at USA (661) xxx-xxxx

Sincerely,
