Introduction

The municipality of Villanueva de Carazo (35 inhabitants in 2009; 1,200 ha) is located in the south-east of the Burgos Province, 50 km of the provincial capital.

Description

The flag and arms of Villanueva de Carazo are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 28 August 2005 by the Municipal Council, signed by the Mayor on 2 September 2005 and published on 29 September 2005 in the official gazette of Castile and Leon, No. 189, pp. 16,607-16,608. The symbols are described as follows:

Municipal flag: Square, whose colors shall be red and white, displayed in vertical stripes, the first, red, of 0.30 and the second, white, of 0.70, in the middle the municipal coat of arms.

Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Arms of Castile - gules a castle or, 2. Azure a rock argent masoned sable in base two sickles ensigned with a yoke all sable, in chief an eight-pointed star argent recalling the San Bartolomé monastery. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
