Empresa Pública de Hidrocarburos del Ecuador, EP PETROECUADOR, was
established through "Decreto Ejecutivo N.º 315" (English: Executive Decree No.
315) on April 6, 2010, becoming a public company and ceased operations as a
holding, to become a single enterprise, although it traces its roots as far as
1972 when its predecessor, the "Corporación Estatal Petrolera Ecuatoriana, CEPE"
(English: Ecuadorian Oil State Corporation, EOSC), in charge of exploration,
exploitation, industrialization, transport and commercialization of oil, at the
time absorbing the Anglo Ecuadorian Oil Fields which was in charge of the
oil
industry. Then on September 26, 1989, under "Ley No. 45" (English: Law No. 45),
the "Empresa Estatal Petróleos del Ecuador (Petroecuador)" (English: State
Petroleum Company of Ecuador) was created encompassing all operations of the
CEPE-Texaco consortium, the Anglo and Repetrol refineries and the "Sistema de
Oleoducto Transecuatoriano" (English: Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System).

The flag has always followed the same pattern: white horizontal background featuring the respective logo in the middle. However, even though there is one definite version (the latest, adopted in 2022) the other flags may seem to be in use still, since the changes have occured in a rather short period of time.
