This flag contains the coat of arms of the DDR between 12 January 1950 and 21 August 1952.

Presidential Flag 1953-1955

This flag is very similar to the national state flag (adopted 1956), but contains the coat of arms of 1953 to 1955, which is a little different from the later one (the compass was reversed in 1955). The coat of arms was first published in the Siegelordnung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (Order on Seals of the DDR) on 28 May 1953.
