From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms were granted on April 12, 1956. The arms are a combination of the bars derived from the Lords of Steglitz, and the imperial eagle, as the original arms were granted in 1887 by Emperor Wilhelm I. As with all arms of the Berlin districts, a mural crown with a small shield with the arms of Berlin may be used.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971.
