The municipality of Alvinlândia (3,000 inhabitants in 2010; 8,504 ha) is located 45 km of Marília and 400 km of São Paulo.

Alvinlândia was founded on 8 August 1934, as Vila Couto, by José Bonifácio do Couto, João Manzano and Horácio Couto. The district of Vila Couto was established by Law No. 2,456 of 31 December 1953, as part of the municipality of Garça. The municipality of Alvinlândia was established by State Law No. 5,285 of 18 February 1959 and inaugurated on 1 January 1960. The name of the municipality is a tribute to Major Juvenal Alvim, the father of the State Representative Joviano Alvim, who supported the political emancipation of the municipality, together with his colleagues Cunha Bueno and Castro Carvalho.
