About the Flag

The flag exists in the cloth, as shown on photos taken during the September Civic Parade, 19 September 2007.

Unfortunately, the clickable thumbnails point to non-matching images, therefore I have to give the URL for the images showing the flag:

The flag is light blue, quartered by a white cross and charged in the middle by the municipal coat of arms placed on a white disk.

The years placed on the scroll below the shield recall:
- the building in 1854 of a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Carmel on Captain Manoel Gonçalves de Melo's Cachoeira estate ("fazenda"), considered as the founding act of Pains; the district of Pains was officialized on 2 July 1859 by Law No. 1675 and reestablished on 12 October 1871 by Law No. 1854.
- the municipal status granted on 31 December 1943 by Decree-Law No. 1058, Pains seceding from its mother municipality, Formiga.

About the Municipality

Official site at http://www.pains.mg.gov.br
Dirk Schönberger, 14 August 2010

The municipality of Pains (7,798 inhabitants in 2000; 418.04 sq. km), is located 190 km west of Belo Horizonte. It is named for the Paim Pamplona family, who colonized the region in the 18th century.

As of today, there is no flag shown on the municipal website symbols' page but a "ghost" flag with the label "Não existe bandera cadastrada" (There is no flag registered). The image available on Wikipedia, however, was uploaded on 3 October 2007 by the municipal administration of Pains. http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheiro:Bandeira_pains.gif
