Description of the flag

The current flag of Macquarie University is a stylized heraldic banner: "On a field vert, the Macquarie lighthouse tower, masoned proper, in chief the star Sirius, or." The Macquarie Lighthouse was Australia's first lighthouse, its foundation stone laid by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in July 13, 1816. The current lighthouse is a replica of the original, built in 1883.
