Municipal flags in Somerset County:
See also:
A blue and gold flag, with the outline of the County, the coat-of-arms of Somerset County England for which the County was named for, and the word Somerset in old English lettering, with the three symbols of mining, agriculture, and industry, and the two maple leaves for the maple sugar industry.
In 1974 I came up with the idea for the flag, when I saw a news report on county flags. I did some research and found out other counties had county flags. I did some research on our county and came up with this idea for the flag, and took my idea to a local art teacher, Paul D. Beal, who lived in my home town of Friedens, Pa. I did the research on the flag and Paul drew it up for me and then presented it to the County Commissioners, they liked it and voted to accept this
drawing and the rest is history. The image is also posted at www.facebook.com/les.griffith.47#..
