Description of the flag

In March 2023, local artist Max Grundy proposed dozens of flag designs to the city council of Iona, which has never had an official flag. In December 2023, he presented 6 small flags he had made, from which the council chose 2 to be voted on by the city. The more popular flag, the Iola Clock Tower flag, was designed to be timeless, honor tradition, respect history, and show the past and future working together. The outreaching beams are related to “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” the motto of the state of Kansas. The clock is set at 3:04, in reference to Kansas being the 34th state. The flag was adopted by the city council on March 11, 2024.
