From the
Ames Tribune (Dec. 11, 2002):
The council also voted unanimously on first passage to repeal the city's flag ordinance. One Ames resident, Earl Franz, had been critical of the city for not flying its official flag in front of City Hall. The city flies a flag bearing the city government logo.
According to an earlier story this week:
The present Ames flag, designed in the 1960s, is not flown in front of City Hall or anywhere else. Many consider the black-and-gold flag inappropriate for the home of Iowa State University.
Phil Nelson, 14 December 2002
The "education" mentioned on the flag likely refers to Iowa State University, which is located in Ames.
