The flag of Sultanbeyli (photo, photo) is dark blue with the district's emblem. The flag is also used vertically, blue or white with he writing either blue (photo) or black (image). "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".
The emblem of Sultanbeyli, adopted on 7 December 2009, features the İstanbul crocus, Crocus olivieri Gay subsp. istanbulensis B. Mathew.
Endemic of the forests surrounding Aydos castle, the İstanbul crocus was elevated as a subspecies of C. olivieri Gay by the British botanist Brian Mathew (The Crocus, a Revision of the Genus Crocus (Iridaceae). London, 1982).
Morphological and anatomical distinguish C. olivieri subsp. istanbulensis from the two other subspecies, C. olivieri subsp. olivieri and C. olivieri subsp. balansae (K. Yetişen, U. Şen, T. Yıldırım & C. Özdemir. 2013. Morphological and anatomical study on endemic Crocus olivieri Gay subsp. istanbulensis Mathew subspecies (Iridaceae). Anadolu University Journal of Science and Technology. C: Life Sciences and Biotechnology, 3, 31-37 PDF file).
Aydos Forest will be turned into a “picnic area” with the construction of restaurants, convenience stores, cafes, dressing rooms, toilets, walking areas and a parking lot, according to the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning. The protected forest will become home to recreational facilities as part of a ministry plan, Doğan News Agency reported March 24.
The plan regarding Aydos Castle and the area surrounding it encompasses nearly 39.6 hectares of space. The plan states that the Aydos Castle and the area around it, which is a first-degree natural and cultural protected area, are home to endemic plants and flower. The plan was formed as restoration on Aydos Castle, which began in 2010, is now drawing to a close.
Speaking about the plan, the Kanlıca Forest Management Directorate said the area could not be subjected to construction and that the plan should exclude the forest area.
The İstanbul crocus normally blossoms in February. Typically just 20 to 30 plants are found in the woods each year.

The flower is the namesake of the International Istanbulensis Poetry Festival (website), whose 5th edition was held in Sultanbeyli in May 2017.
