The flag of the Tunisian Republic is prescribed by Constitutional Law No. 56,
promulgated on 30 June 1999 by Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President of the
Republic, and published on 6 July 1999 in the Tunisian official gazette, No. 54,
p. 1,088.
Article 1.
The flag of the Tunisian Republic is composed of
a red rectangle, whose width equals the two thirds (2/3) of its length. It is
tied to the host by the left's vertical edge.
Article 2.
In the flag's
center is drawn a white circle, whose diameter equals one third (1/3) of the
rectangle's length. The circle's center matches the intersection point of the
rectangle's diagonals. Within the white circle is drawn a five-pointed red star
whose center is located on the horizontal median, at the right of the white
circle's center and at a distance of one thirtieth (1/30) of the flag's length
in the hoist's opposed side. The dimensions of the branches of the star are
determined by an imaginary circle representing the ends of the branches and
having for center the star's; its diameter equals fifteen percent (15%) of the
flag's length. The branches are equidistant, the end of one of them being
located on the flag's horizontal median and at the left of the white circle's
center.
The star is surrounded on the hoist's size by a red crescent composed
of the intersection of two arcs, an outer arc having for center the white
circle's center and whose diameter equals one fourth (1/4) of the flag's length,
and an inner arc having for center the star's and whose diameter equals one
fifth (1/5) of the flag's length.
Article 3.
At the top of the flag of
the Tunisian Republic dedicated to the President of the Republic is inscribed in
gilded letters the writing (...). The flag is attached to a spear with a gilded
finial, on which are engraved the circle, the star and the crescent, and to
which is attached a ribbon featuring a flag.
Article 4. A technical file
[not supplied in the online version] is attached to this Law, including a model
of the flag, its different measurements, the way to draw it as well as technical
specifications for the color.
