Important notice

The series of the Russian and Soviet naval flags, ensigns and pennants that is presented at Russian Navy website consists of images claimingly according the book of V. Dygalo Flot gosudarstva Rossiiskogo. Otkuda i chto na flote poshlo [dygXX].
Željko Heimer, 03 Apr 1999

The flags of this pattern (white ensign with blue base and big red star and H&S in white field) are all marked as used from 1950-1992. However, certain flags of that pattern are adopted in 1935 and 1938. Moreover the appropriate flags of the first pattern were obsolete in 1935. I guess that these flags are adopted before 1950, but for the lack of info I designate them all as 1950 (as designated on the original site). The dates of use of this flags remain unknown.
Željko Heimer, 15 Apr 1999

The source “Flag-znamya korablya, Russian Navy website” have several incorrect flags.
Victor Lomantsov, 18 Mar 2000

There was a project (not adopted) of navy ensign in WWII — red with blue Andrew’s cross bordered white.
Victor Lomantsov, 18 Mar 2000

Clearly influenced by the russian ensign with addition of soviet red.
