Representing only 1.1% of the total area of the country,
Paramaribo District includes more than 240,000 inhabitants, that
is 50% of the population of the country. Paramaribo, locally
known as Para, is the capital of the country.
"Dagblad
Suriname", 9 May 2009, reports the unveiling of the flag
of Paramaribo District on 8 May 2009. The flag is yellow with a
locomotive and the writing "District Para" above it.

This above information about the capital Paramaribo is not correct...
First of all in Suriname the capital of the country is called Paramaribo all the
time and is absolutely not known locally as Para.
There is a district in Suriname called Para, but that is a district (kind of
province) more to the south away from the capital and is no part of the capital
at all.
Indeed Paramaribo holds about 240,000 of the population, but the proposed flag
that Mr. Ivan Sache is talking about citing an article of "Dagblad Suriname" is
the proposed flag of the district Para and not of the capital Paramaribo. The
Capital Paramaribo is part of the Capital district Paramaribo; again Para is a
district known for its tourism and mining with about 20,000 inhabitants.
The Capital Paramaribo does not have its own flag, and up till now there is still
no separate flag proposed for the capital Paramaribo
Please correct the information on the page. The current information of Mr. Ivan
Sache is totally not correct.
